America Ferrera: "It all starts with a dream."

America Ferrera has won a Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild Award for her acting in the tv series Ugly Betty. In a recent interview she commented, "People always ask 'Did you ever imagine that your life would be like this?' The politically correct thing to say is, 'No - I'm so surprised, I'm so shocked.'

"But the truth is: Yes! This all started with a dream. I was probably as young as seven when I knew that this was what I wanted to spend my life doing... It really just takes a dream. You dream it, you focus on it, you envision it and life will just provide." [Latina, March 2007]

In his article The Seven Secrets of Top Performers, James Arthur Ray declares, "Hard work certainly contributes to success, but hard work alone will not make you top-flight in your industry. High achievers know exactly what they want. Many people [I studied] had a vague idea of what they wanted (or what they thought they could achieve); and even more knew what they didn't want; but the high performers knew in measurable terms, what they wanted to accomplish in every area of their life."

James Ray is one of the teachers on The Secret DVD [see information page] - speaking of which, Debra Moorhead in her blog post How to Set Clear, Definite Goals, writes, "One of the main principles in the Law of Attraction is that you must set clear, definite goals. When telling the universe, God, or infinite mind what you want, you must be as specific as possible... I don’t know about you, but I sometimes struggle with details." She goes on to make some helpful suggestions on how to better visualize.

But using visualization, clarity, intention, dreaming and "the law of attraction" discussed in "The Secret" [and by so many other personal development leaders] to help us achieve also needs concrete action.

In her article Do It Yourself, Sharon Good notes that Wayne Dyer (author of The Power of Intention) earlier in his career, "bought copies of his failing book 'Your Erroneous Zones' from his publisher, packed them in the trunk of his car, and traveled the country doing talk radio shows and selling books."
