I think that when a particular behaviour is labelled as a disorder, it usually says more about the people and the society than it does about the person.

As a society we need people to be sociable and work together in order to survive. If people fall outside this criteria, they are stigmatized, because our reptilian brains surmise that they are less productive in aiding our survival.

We all know that extroversion and introversion are perceived very differently. We can talk until the cows come home about just being different, but of course the reality is that people are often goaded, nee forced, into being more sociable than they would like or stigmatized if they are their own person (and therefore go against the tribe).

Everything is dictated to by our need to survive, whether we realise it or not.

I was very charasmatic and energetic as a small child; at the same time, I was extremely shy. I actually smiled; it was quite the invigorating experience. The older I got, the less charasmatic and likable I became -- the shier, gloomier, and more unlikable I got. Wasted potential, but I did have more disorders than Carter's has pills, so we work with what we have. If I could go back, I never would have fallen into that trap. But, I was a kid who was negatively conditioned into being a nut -- only so much we can do. Still wouldn't have fallen into it no matter what.
