Many of us who have performed before an audience can probably relate to American Idol castoff Alex Lambert.
The fear of failing in front of an audience is familiar to me.
Even though I never had a major memory lapse or experienced any ridicule for my work as an actress, I always felt afraid before every performance .
Here are some comments by Alex about performance anxiety from an interview with Ellen Degeneres.
I did pretty good. I didn’t think I was going to do that good at all.
I have the worst stage fright ever.
When I get up there I just focus on my vocals so much because I’m so nervous.
It’s like I can’t focus on multiple things I’m so nervous.
[My Mom’s] been trying to make me audition since I was 16, and this year she told me if I didn’t go audition she was going to take my phone away.
I had to go audition – I need my cell phone.
