Jamie Lee Curtis on the power of self-acceptance to build identity
Jamie Lee Curtis on self esteem, building self confidence, self-acceptance, authentic happiness
elf acceptance and realistic esteem are crucial to how well we relate to others and express our talents. Being comfortable in our own skins is part of being happy, authentic and free to be creative.
The current Success magazine includes a profile of actor and children’s book author Jamie Lee Curtis, and notes that “living and working amid Hollywood’s culture of suspended youth took its toll on her.”
Curtis was doing a children’s book on self-esteem, and says, “I really felt like I wanted to shed the shame I’d been feeling – and maybe make it easier for women my age who had probably felt bad about themselves.”
She is enthusiastic about the liberation of being authentic: “I think my capacity to change has given me tremendous happiness, because who I am today I am completely content to be.
“I think happiness comes from self-acceptance. We all try different things, and we find some comfortable sense of who we are.
“The more I like me, the less I want to pretend to be other people.”
