"I was lost and all I found were people who wanted to help, but most of the time hadn't a clue. They couldn't quite grasp why I was sad and felt misplaced. The ‘Overcome Depression’ book made all the difference and hit all the right buttons in my head. I visited doctor after doctor, saw specialists, psychiatrists and yet, I wasn't getting anywhere. Your book gave me the answers I was looking for."

Overcome Depression is a self-help program based on Cognitive behavioral therapy.

"Cognitive behavioral therapy (or cognitive behavior therapy, CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to influence problematic and dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure." [Wikipedia]

“It is not only about what you think and why you think it… it is also about the rules you govern your thoughts by”.

'Overcome Depression' author Richard Green, PhD

From the program site - CBT Depression :

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has some very straightforward and clear principles and is a very sensible and practical approach to problem solving.

Some CBT practices seem very simple, causing some people to question how something so simple can be so effective in helping someone overcome their problem…

Problem solving doesn’t have to be complicated and just because it seems simple, it doesn’t mean it’s easy!

The effectiveness of CBT for various psychological problems has been more extensively researched than any other psychotherapeutic approach and its reputation as a highly effective treatment is growing.

For example, several studies have shown that CBT is more effective than medication alone in treating anxiety and depression.

Studies also show that people who use CBT to overcome problems such as depression and anxiety stay better for longer periods and that they are less likely to relapse, compared to those who use other psychotherapeutic approaches.

The University of Michigan Depression Center explains that over 75% of depressed patients experience significant improvement using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).

Taking Anti-Depressants will only defer your depression - it is not a cure.

The only way to cure your depression is by changing the way you think and what you do...

Program author Richard Green, PhD says, "My book "Overcome Depression" will...

* Help you understand the relationship between your thoughts, behaviours and moods.

* Teach you behavioural techniques to help increase your activity level.

* Teach you cognitive techniques to help identify and challenge the negative thoughts which help to keep your depression ongoing.

* Teach you to measure changes in your symptoms, prepare for obstacles and set goals.

* Help identify triggers and patterns to your low moods, and to understand that you can play an active part in getting yourself out of a low mood.

What is Depression?

About 12% of the population experience depression severe enough to require treatment at some time or other in their life.

People experience depression in many different ways, but perhaps the most prominent feature is a low or sad mood.

Other typical signs of depression include: lethargy, trouble with sleeping or early waking, feelings constantly tired, pessimistic negative thoughts, difficulty thinking straight or making decisions, change in appetite and loss of interest.

There are different types of depression ranging from mid mood fluctuations or also known as ‘The Blues’, to severe clinical depression.

At the severe end of the scale people often experience more marked physical symptoms and it seems likely that this is related to biochemical changes in the brain.

For most people a depression reaction is triggered by a set of life events that they are finding difficult to cope with.

Depression is not easy to ‘snap out of’, but there are ways that you can gradually free yourself from depression.
