People might read a trade book aimed at an intelligent lay audience; one
which explained the nature of giftedness to the public, and shared the
lives of gifted adults, in their own voices. As a
professional writer, I assigned myself the task of creating such a book.

In our concern for the social and emotional needs of our gifted
students, it seems to me that we must not lose sight of the fact
that families and classrooms are not only the places where
children grow and develop.
They
are also the places where adults are working out their lives. And since
it is the adults who are in charge in these areas; who set the tone,
choose the content and make the rules, their well-being is a crucial
factor in the well-being of their charges.

Contemporary life is
a challenge to the emotional, physical and financial well being of a
gifted woman who chooses to become a mother.
Is
there a “best” way for gifted women to navigate this significant life
phase? Obviously not; each woman will choose her own path.
However, there are aspects of our society which actually work against
the nurturing of bright children by bright women, areas where we lag
behind other developed countries.
