A reminder from Indiana Jones
By Laura
Silva Quesada
Each
of us can learn something from his experiences of triumphing over
negative thoughts and turning his life around. He
grew up a shy kid, continually bullied at school for not 'fitting in'. Every
day, they'd tease the future Indiana Jones, beat him, and roll him down
a hill. That's
not the way children should grow up, but maybe even you went through
that in school. Though
furious inside (an anger he would hold onto for years), he kept up a
'Gandhi-like' policy of non-violence -- not fighting back and enraging
his tormentors even more. Nothing
pointed towards a successful future except his minor interest in radio
broadcasting. He was
just like anyone else. He
wasn't good at sports, and hardly ever rose above a C-average in class. He
studied English in college, and hated it. It was
soon afterwards that he started showing symptoms of depression -- Once,
he remembers, he awoke after a 3-day 'nap' and decided to attend a
class. When
he got to the classroom and was unable to turn the classroom door
handle, he turned around and went right back to bed. When
you're not happy; when you lose your appetite; when you're unable to
get out of bed and function - you're depressed. When
you don't feel up to facing even life's littlest things and you feel
sad that the day has started, you are depressed. Harrison
Ford had many days like that. Can
you imagine how you'd feel, if, a few days before graduation the
college decided to withhold your degree? Well,
that's exactly what happened to Ford! Despite
the odds, young Ford rose above to become the famous Hollywood actor we
all admire as Indiana 'Indy' Jones. It's
always important not to give up hope. He proved that your past doesn't
determine your future, but what is his secret? "You
have to experience the darkness before the dawn can come", says Ford.
"It's about positivity despite everything crashing down on you." ~ ~ Learn
