If the angel deigns to come it will be because you have convinced her, not by tears but by your humble resolve to be always beginning: to be a beginner. Rainer Maria Rilke - quoted in Campsark newsletter

Does it make sense to spend the rest of your life in mediocrity because you waited to get started? In life there are lines you cross and never recross. You have only the present moment. You can never recapture this moment later if you decide in retrospect that it was the best one. Postponing is not simply postponing; it is a failure to act. In any moment you either act or do not act.
You also need to watch out for the particular traps associated with your style; these can conspire to stop you before you get started.

.. .. To be creative is, yes, to do art. It has also been identified as one of the top qualities of an effective manager and the edge a successful entrepreneur has on competitors. It is an inner beauty that radiates on the outside. Creative expression is the beacon your soul mate will follow, the key to relationships that flourish, and the means through which parenting becomes joyous. It is the tool that takes a mundane reality and makes it extraordinary. Creative problem solving is the answer to life's most challenging dilemmas. |

.. .. I think finding your passion is a key to a really good life. I think that the best way to find it is to really understand what’s your gift. What has God given you inherently and I think everybody has a gift. Finding that gift is harder. It’s almost like psychoanalysis; you almost have to figure yourself out and then go for it. ... In order to begin to design or create, you have to be incredibly dedicated because the money is certainly not there. Adrian

.. .. As soon as I started working it came naturally that I was able to understand what it was that I didn't like. It was a little difficult to find what exactly I wanted to do. ... You know, you take time. You have to go through different experiences to understand the certain things you don't like helps you to focus on what is left and to look at different things or search for something else that you didn't know could exist. ..It is a shock when you realize the value your own inner secrets hold for others. Yet it is true. The public wants to be moved, delighted, and struck by your bravery. They want to see you succeed, and they crave your initiative.
If you are an artist, people long for the depths of your expression; if you are a businessperson, they hope to be inspired by your vision and creativity. And no, the public doesn't want the canned version of a good idea; they want your good idea, the one that can only come from your own particular set of DNA.**

If you follow your bliss you will find a path laid out before you that has been waiting for you all along and you will begin to live the life you ought to be living. Joseph Campbell

In my coaching practice, I work with lots of people working on solo or small group creative projects. The word RISK comes from the Greek and means, "to sail around a cliff". When we sail around a cliff we don't know for certain what we'll find. But if we stay home, we don't experience anything and may feel like a coward. Creative risk-taking is exhilarating and can feel most empowering. Opening your own art gallery, finishing that novel, or finally going back to school in a new field are all calculated, positive risks. Commitment demands courage for sure and an inner knowing that you are following the right path for the right reasons.

One of the phrases I hear from coaching clients and from others I talk to is, "I haven't lived up to my potential." I'll admit, I often said that to myself as well. Finally, it dawned on me -- I wasn't even sure what "my potential" really is and, if I can define it, whether I really want to live it. Ask yourself, "What is my potential?" There are probably a dozen ways you can answer that question. Your potential is certainly not limited to one specific path and one specific talent.
One day, I just declared that I have reached my potential. The fact is that I am doing the best I can given who I am at this moment in time. I can't remember a time I woke up and said to myself, "I'm really going to screw up today and do the worst job I possibly can." So, today, I'm living up to my potential.
Does that mean I'll always be doing what I'm doing today? Does it mean that I'll never move forward in my life? Absolutely not. We are all dynamic beings whose lives change on a daily basis. We cannot avoid change, although a lot of people do their best to resist it. ![]()

"Sucks" used to be a dirty word, but now we hear it everywhere. When your life sucks, it's a wake-up call-an invitation to do something different. We have all been hypnotized into thinking that we are smaller than we are. Just as an undersized flower pot keeps a mighty tree root-bound or a little fishbowl keeps goldfish tiny, we have adapted, adjusted, and accommodated to a Lilliputian life. But place the same tree in an open field or the fish in a lake, and they will grow to a hundred times their size. Unlike the tree or goldfish, you are not dependent on someone else to move you. You have the power to move yourself.

I believe I am worth the time it takes to create whatever I feel called to create.
I believe that my work is worthy of its own space, which is worthy of the name Sacred. I believe that, when I enter this space, I have the right to work in silence, uninterrupted, for as long as I choose.I believe that the moment I open myself to the gifts of the Muse, I open myself to the Source of All Creation and become One With the Mother of Life Itself.

Richard Nelson Bolles. |
This small book, originally an appendix in Bolles' "What Color is Your Parachute?"
is filled with beautiful ideas, inspiration and guidance. Bolles acknowledges his Christian
viewpoint, but attempts to be inclusive, referring to God as "The One from whom your
Mission is derived."Bolles believes that everyone actually has three missions (or a three-part mission). The first
mission is to live in the "conscious presence" of the One from whom your Mission is derived. The second mission is to "do what you can, moment by moment, day by day, step by step
to make this world a better place, following the leading and guiding of God's Spirit within you
and around you."Everyone shares this mission, as the goal is too large to be achieved by any single person.
In any situation, says Bolles, we need only ask ourselves whether our decision leads to more
gratitude, kindness, forgiveness, honesty and love in the world, or less. The third mission, our unique task, is to use the talents and skills which we
"particularly came to Earth to use".Our mission is to do the things we most enjoy doing, in the places "which God has caused to
appeal to [us] most, for those purposes which God most needs to have done in the world."In other words, there's a reason that certain activities and locations appeal to us. These are not
coincidences or things distracting us somehow from our Mission - they are part of our Mission. In this way, Bolles assures us, we don't need to wonder continuously what our Mission is; we
already have our talents and pleasures to guide us.[from review by Polly Washburn - site: www.planetpolly.net]

"A gremlin, or inner critic, or whatever you want to call it... can get us all spun around. It can squash a person's creative voice, and their belief in their voice. People have this to a greater or lesser degree. So the coaching gets down to very core things, like uncovering what a person's life purpose really is, and their key values." from interview : Scott Reiniger on co-active coaching

Sophie B. Hawkins
After two successful albums in the early '90s, bad decisions torpedoed her career and left her just about broke.
Now she's in control of her career and finances and it's paying off. ..."Finally, the person I was when I was writing became the person I am all of the time now." ...
As in most turnaround success stories, there was no single epiphany or big moment of enlightenment, but several small ones
along the way. Hawkins, for example, had been making plenty of money on royalties and had already met the person
who would become her best choice for a business partner and advisor. That was Gigi Gaston, a screenwriter and director.."Sophie B. Hawkins' advice to aspiring artists:
* Love the job, no matter what it is, that pays the bills and enables you to pursue your art in your free time.
* Never insulate yourself from the business side of your art.... actively participate in it.
* Find the right mentor, business partner and legal advisor and never assume they have to come from the industry
in which you're trying to succeed.
* Do not blame your failures on others. "I knew I should have been able to get my work out there and it was
only myself holding me back."[from article: "Singer-Songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins' Finances Finally In Tune
With Her Art" by Ronald D. White, Los Angeles Times, May 20, 2001]
