Being creative to save ourselves
In the “Hustle and Flow” post on her Blast O’ Joy blog, Suzanne Falter-Barns praises this “incredible indie film [DVD].. about a drug dealing pimp in the backwaters of Memphis who lives his dream of becoming a successful rapper. I found a lot of inspiration here for dream pursuit - and you will, too. You’ve got to order this thing from Netflix and see it… It conveys one of my key messages - that your creative self-expression is the fast road to healing. It can give you back your mojo in about one minute when you connect to that magical spirit - even when you’re a down and out pimp having a mid life crisis. You can just feel that passion that pours through his soul.”

Psychiatrist Judith Orloff M.D. comments in her book Positive Energy: “Creativity is the mother of all energies, nurturer of your most alive self. It charges up every part of you. This energy rises from your own life force and from a larger spiritual flow.”
Many artists and other people acknowledge that this energy of creative expression helps them deal with life, even heal from physical, emotional, sexual abuse.
“The portal of healing and creativity always takes us into the realm of the spirit” notes Angeles Arrien, author of The Nine Muses: A Mythological Path to Creativity
But on the other side, suppressing or being blocked from creative expression can be toxic, leading to ills such as depression, as psychologist and creativity coach Eric Maisel makes clear in his book The Van Gogh Blues.

Great thoughts. I have just left a large corporation because I was sick of meetings, projects run by left brained people. Work seems to squash individuality nowadays…I suppose its the risk, people think playing safe is less risky for me that is the ultimate risk ! Keep up the good work !
